Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu was honored with a traditional Fijian welcome by the Fijian community in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on July 20, 2025. The heartwarming ceremony, organized under the guidance of Fiji’s High Commissioner to PNG, His Excellency Jackson Evans, emphasized the strong cultural ties and pride of Fijians living abroad.
During the event, Commissioner Tudravu conveyed his gratitude, acknowledging how such gestures reinforce the deep connections among the Fijian diaspora. His visit to Papua New Guinea is part of a broader agenda that includes participation in the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI) Design Steering Group meeting and the Pacific Chiefs of Police Forum, aimed at fostering regional cooperation in law enforcement.
Notably, he will also attend the inaugural Pacific Police Tattoo on July 22, which celebrates unity and culture through the music of police bands from various nations including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, PNG, Tonga, Nauru, Samoa, and the Solomon Islands. This event is supported by the Australian Federal Police and is expected to deepen regional policing partnerships through cultural exchanges.
Additionally, Commissioner Tudravu took the opportunity to engage with the Fijian diaspora in a talanoa session, addressing concerns about policing and community safety. He praised the community and the High Commissioner’s Office for their warm hospitality, especially in caring for the Fiji Police Band during their stay.
This cohesive presence and active dialogue signify a united approach to regional safety and collaboration, inspiring hope for strengthened relationships among Pacific nations. As Commissioner Tudravu forges connections during his engagements, the expectation is that these initiatives will lead to reinforced safety and security, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility across the region.
