The Acting Minister for Home Affairs, Filimoni Vosarogo, has confirmed that Fijian peacekeepers stationed in the Middle East are safe amid the rising tensions between Israel and Iran. He emphasized the significance of ensuring their safety, particularly following the recent call from the UN Secretary-General for a complete ceasefire in the area.
“With the increase in hostility, specifically the recent Iranian airstrikes over Israeli airspace, maintaining security protocols for our peacekeepers is critical,” he stated. Vosarogo has received updates from the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces regarding the situation of Fijian peacekeepers in the region. He noted that personnel deployed in Lebanon, Syria’s Golan Heights, Jerusalem, and Sinai remain vigilant and are closely monitoring developments.
In light of the ongoing instability in the region, Vosarogo has encouraged the public to keep the peacekeepers in their thoughts and prayers.
