Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Shines with 7th Place Finish in Paris

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar wrapped up her remarkable performance at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics, achieving a world ranking of 7th. Mar’s journey concluded in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category, where she faced a challenging opponent, the world number 2, Gamze Gurdal from Turkey.

The 19-year-old athlete gained attention earlier in the tournament by pulling off a significant upset in the round of 16, where she defeated world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska of Ukraine, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar went up against another formidable contender, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar lost the match with a score of 12-6.
