Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Shines in Paris: A Journey Worth Celebrating!

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar wrapped up her remarkable performance at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics by securing a 7th place ranking in the world.

Mar’s journey came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category, where she faced off against world number 2 Gamze Gurdal from Turkey.

The 19-year-old athlete garnered attention earlier in the tournament when she achieved a significant upset in the round of 16 by defeating Ukraine’s world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska, which allowed her to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar encountered another formidable opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite a strong performance, Mar was ultimately defeated with a score of 12-6.
