Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Shines Bright at Paris 2024

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar concluded her remarkable campaign at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics with a world ranking of 7th. Her journey came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category following a challenging match against Turkey’s world number 2, Gamze Gurdal.

The 19-year-old athlete garnered attention earlier in the competition when she caused a significant upset in the round of 16 by overcoming world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska from Ukraine, thereby securing her place in the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar competed against another formidable opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar was ultimately defeated with a score of 12-6.
