Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar concluded her remarkable campaign at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics with a world ranking of 7th. Mar’s journey came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category after a challenging match against Turkey’s world number 2, Gamze Gurdal.

The 19-year-old athlete made headlines earlier in the tournament when she achieved a significant upset in the round of 16 by defeating world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska of Ukraine, which earned her a place in the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar faced another tough opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar lost the match with a score of 12-6.
