Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Shines at Paris 2024 with Impressive 7th Place Finish

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar has concluded her remarkable performance at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics, finishing 7th in the world. Mar’s journey came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category, where she faced a challenging opponent, Gamze Gurdal of Turkey, who ranks second in the world.

The 19-year-old athlete gained attention earlier in the tournament by pulling off a significant upset in the round of 16, where she triumphed over the world’s seventh-ranked competitor, Yuliya Lypetska from Ukraine, earning her place in the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar encountered another tough rival, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her determined effort, Mar was ultimately defeated with a score of 12-6.
