Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Shines at Paris 2024: A Journey to Remember!

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar has concluded her remarkable journey at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics, finishing 7th in the world rankings. Mar’s campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category, where she faced a challenging opponent in world number 2, Gamze Gurdal from Turkey.

At just 19 years old, Mar garnered attention earlier in the tournament by pulling off a significant upset in the round of 16, defeating the seventh-ranked Yuliya Lypetska from Ukraine, which earned her a place in the quarterfinals.

In the bronze medal repechage round, Mar was tasked with competing against another formidable athlete, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar fell short with a score of 12-6.
