Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar has wrapped up her remarkable performance at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics, finishing ranked 7th in the world. Mar’s campaign concluded in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category after a challenging match against Turkey’s world number 2, Gamze Gurdal.
The 19-year-old athlete made a significant impact earlier in the tournament by pulling off an upset in the round of 16, where she triumphed over Ukraine’s world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska, securing her place in the quarterfinals.
In the repechage round for the bronze medal, Mar faced another formidable opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her best efforts, Mar was defeated with a score of 12-6.
