Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar Impresses at Paris 2024: A Journey to Remember!

Fijian Paralympian Irene Mar finished her impressive run at the 2024 Summer Paris Paralympics with a world ranking of 7th. Her campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Women’s K44-57kg category, where she faced a challenging match against Turkey’s world number 2, Gamze Gurdal.

At just 19 years old, Mar garnered attention earlier in the tournament by pulling off a significant upset in the round of 16, where she triumphed over Ukraine’s world number 7, Yuliya Lypetska, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

In the subsequent bronze medal repechage round, Mar was tasked with competing against another formidable opponent, world number 3 Kamilya Dosmalova from Kazakhstan. Despite her strong performance, Mar was ultimately defeated with a score of 12-6.
