Three vibrant social media influencers from Fiji have been chosen to attend the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Odisha, India. The High Commission of India in Suva recently hosted a pre-departure briefing for the selected influencers: Shania Singh, Shaheel Shermont Flair, and Ashwani Vasist Deo.
Shania Singh, who has transitioned from a television personality to a notable content creator, has captivated audiences with her engaging material. Shaheel Shermont Flair enjoys a significant following on TikTok, where his videos have garnered recognition from numerous celebrities, including prominent Bollywood figures. Similarly, Ashwani has also gained considerable traction on TikTok, with his content receiving widespread attention.
The influencers are looking forward to immersing themselves in India’s rich heritage, culture, and stunning landscapes during the convention, which will take place from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is observed annually on January 9 to honor the contributions of the overseas Indian community towards India’s development. This date was selected as it marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in 1915, an event that significantly impacted the Indian independence movement.
Since its inception in 2003, the format of the PBD has evolved. The convention now occurs biennially, featuring theme-based discussions in the intervening years that include the participation of overseas diaspora experts, policymakers, and stakeholders. These events serve as a vital platform for the overseas Indian community to collaborate with the Indian government and foster connections, enhancing mutual benefits and sharing valuable experiences.
This initiative not only highlights the talents of Fijian influencers but also strengthens the bond between the Indian diaspora and their homeland, ultimately encouraging cultural exchange and collaboration.
