Three talented Fijian social media influencers have been invited to participate in the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention scheduled to take place in Odisha, India. Shania Singh, Shaheel Shermont Flair, and Ashwani Vasist Deo were briefed by senior officials from the High Commission of India in Suva before their departure.
Shania Singh, a former television star, has made a name for herself as a prominent content creator. Shaheel Shermont Flair is well-known on TikTok, where his videos have gained popularity, even catching the attention of many Bollywood celebrities. Similarly, Ashwani has also seen his TikTok content widely circulated.
The influencers are excited to immerse themselves in India’s rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and traditions while attending the convention, which will occur from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneshwar.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) has been celebrated annually on January 9 since 2003, recognizing the contributions of the overseas Indian community to India’s development. This date holds historical significance as it marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa in 1915, a pivotal moment that spearheaded India’s freedom struggle and transformed the lives of millions.
Since 2015, the convention has evolved to take place every two years, with themed conferences in between that involve participation from global diaspora experts, policymakers, and stakeholders. These gatherings not only foster engagement between the overseas Indian community and the Indian government but also serve as valuable networking opportunities, allowing members to share their insights and experiences across various sectors.
