Three vibrant Fijian social media influencers have been chosen to participate in the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Odisha. The selection was announced during a pre-departure briefing by senior officials of the High Commission of India in Suva, which was held today.

The influencers include Shania Singh, a former television personality known for her engaging content; Shaheel Shermont Flair, who has gained a significant following on TikTok, with many Bollywood celebrities sharing his videos; and Ashwani Vasist Deo, who has also garnered widespread attention for his TikTok content.

They are excited to immerse themselves in India’s rich heritage, culture, and stunning landscapes while attending the convention, scheduled from January 8 to January 10 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated annually on January 9, commemorating the contributions of the Overseas Indian community to India’s development. This date marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa in 1915, where he initiated significant efforts in the country’s freedom struggle, profoundly influencing the lives of Indians.

Since 2015, the convention’s format has been updated to take place biennially, interspersed with theme-based conferences that encourage participation from the overseas diaspora, including experts, policymakers, and stakeholders. These events serve as invaluable platforms for the overseas Indian community to connect with both the Indian government and their fellow compatriots, fostering beneficial activities and networking opportunities across the diaspora.

This gathering not only highlights the importance of the connection between Indians abroad and their homeland but also showcases the opportunities these influencers will have to share their rich experiences and insights, likely leading to a greater appreciation of cultural exchange and collaboration in the future.
