Three prominent social media influencers from Fiji have been chosen to represent the island nation at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, which will take place in Odisha. The High Commission of India in Suva organized a pre-departure briefing today for the selected influencers: Shania Singh, Shaheel Shermont Flair, and Ashwani Vasist Deo.

Shania Singh, a former television host, has gained considerable popularity as a content creator, while Shaheel Shermont Flair boasts a substantial following on TikTok, with many Bollywood celebrities sharing his content. Ashwani has also made a name for himself on TikTok, further contributing to the digital scene with his engaging videos. The trio will have the opportunity to explore India’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty during the convention, scheduled for January 8-10 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is an annual event celebrated on January 9, a date significant for marking the contribution of the Overseas Indian community in India’s development. This particular date was chosen as it commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in 1915, a pivotal moment in India’s freedom struggle.

Since its inception in 2003, PBD has evolved, now occurring every two years with themed conferences in between.
