Ravinder Dhesi, a Fijian national and the general manager of JW Marriot Gold Coast, has expressed his desire to return to Fiji if the opportunity arises. This month marks Dhesi’s 25th anniversary with the Marriot Group.
Reflecting on his career, Dhesi noted that graduating with a Bachelor of Business in Sydney set him on an unexpected journey to becoming the general manager of a luxury five-star hotel in Australia. He recalled his first assignment as a graduate accountant in 1993, which involved auditing Sheraton Fiji, a location that holds great significance for him.
During a recent visit to Sheraton Fiji, Dhesi felt a wave of nostalgia as he reunited with staff who remembered him fondly. He shared that employees approached him with warmth, recognizing his accomplishments in the hospitality industry as a fellow local.
Dhesi sees his career path as an inspiring story for other Fijians and has plans to continue working within the Marriott chain. He highlighted the extensive portfolio of Marriott hotels in Fiji and expressed enthusiasm about the potential to nurture local talent in the hospitality field, emphasizing that Fiji will always be his home.
