Chandra Segran, a prominent figure in Fijian football, has been honored with induction into the Fiji Football Association Legends Club, marking him as its 84th member. This recognition celebrates his significant contributions to the sport both in Fiji and on an international level.

Segran, who began his football journey in Rakiraki Nanuku, has held various influential roles in the sport, including referee, instructor, and administrator, earning admiration across the football community. In an interview with Fiji Football Association Media, Segran expressed his gratitude for the tribute, stating, “I am honoured to be inducted into the Fiji FA Legends and I thank Fiji FA for recognising our invaluable contributions to football development in Fiji, both on and off the field.”

His career commenced in 1980 as a referee, and he quickly progressed to become a FIFA Assistant Referee from 1992 to 1998, officiating significant global matches. Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel praised Segran’s extensive contributions, stating, “His efforts have not only elevated the sport within Fiji but have also helped place it on the global stage. Congratulations to Segran on this well-deserved honour.”

Segran’s dedication to football development was evident in his role as a FIFA Instructor starting in 1997, where he trained referees throughout the Pacific. In 2000, he became Fiji FA’s Referees Development Officer (RDO), where he modernized refereeing standards in Fiji. Additionally, during his tenure as the Fiji FA Ba Academy Manager from 2001 to 2012, he played a pivotal role in nurturing young football talents and enhancing grassroots football.

Although Segran moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2012, his influence on Fijian football remains profound. His induction into the Legends Club is a testament to the lasting impact he has had on the sport, inspiring future generations and fostering growth within the football community.

This recognition of Segran’s achievements not only highlights his personal journey but also serves as an uplifting reminder of the power of sports to unite and motivate individuals in pursuit of their passion.
