Fijian Flying Circus Takes Center Stage on International Tour!

Fijian Flying Circus Set to Dazzle in French Polynesia

The Fijian Flying Circus, located in Nadi, is poised to take a significant leap onto the global stage with its inaugural tour to French Polynesia. This journey marks a pivotal moment for Fijian performing arts, following the circus’s successful debut as Fiji’s first circus just last year.

During the next three months, the circus will present its vibrant performances in a 600-seat big top, showcasing the rich artistry and culture of Fiji. Navitalai Waqavotuwale, artistic director of VOU, expressed his excitement over the opportunity: “This is an incredible chance to display Fiji’s vibrant culture globally.” Waqavotuwale believes this tour has the potential to foster job creation within the performing arts sector for Fijian youth, suggesting that the entertainment industry in Fiji could become a substantial cultural export, bolstering the economy and enriching the country’s artistic landscape.

The cast for this groundbreaking tour features 32 talented performers eager to convey the energy and spirit of Fiji to audiences worldwide. Sachiko Soro, founder of VOU Dance, noted that financial support from the ACP-EU Culture Fund, facilitated by the South Pacific Commission (SPC), has been essential in making this tour a reality. Soro remarked, “As the Fijian Flying Circus takes flight beyond Fiji’s shores, this initiative underscores the potential of Fijian artists to compete in the global performing arts arena.”

This ambitious tour complements other recent cultural efforts in Fiji. VOU has been actively promoting local talent through annual youth talent searches, addressing recruitment challenges primarily related to cultural expectations for women. The organization is committed to overcoming these barriers to boost participation in the performing arts.

This progressive approach not only seeks to enhance the visibility of Fijian arts but also creates promising opportunities for local economic growth spurred by cultural tourism.

Overall, the Fijian Flying Circus’s journey signals a hopeful development for both the arts and the economy, inspiring future generations of Fijian artists and entertainers to aspire for international acclaim.
