Fiji’s renowned Fijian Flying Circus is set to embark on its inaugural tour of New Zealand in 2026, with support from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade as well as the New Zealand High Commission in Suva. High Commissioner Charlotte Darlow joined performers and Director Sachiko Soro in Suva to announce this exciting partnership, which will showcase the troupe at two of New Zealand’s prominent arts festivals.
The Fijian Flying Circus, known for its vibrant blend of contemporary dance, circus arts, and Pacific storytelling, will take center stage at the Hamilton Arts Festival from February 27 to 28, following a week-long performance at the Wellington Fringe Festival from February 17 to 21, 2026.
Charlotte Darlow expressed pride in supporting an act that highlights Fiji’s rich creative talent, stating, “I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this show with my family and I know New Zealand audiences are going to love it. It’s a privilege to support this level of Fijian creative excellence.”
Director Sachiko Soro emphasized the transformative effect of this partnership on Fiji’s arts sector, calling it akin to having a “big brother or sister” guiding them. She highlighted the importance of this support in building sustainable career paths for Fijian artists, noting that each performer is a full-time artist trained at VOU’s accredited Conservatorium of Dance, which covers all aspects of performance, from lighting and sound to costuming and production.
The Fijian Flying Circus aims to create a captivating performance that celebrates Pacific identity, unity, and creative strength, forging a deep connection with New Zealand and its Pacific diaspora. With this exciting venture, audiences in New Zealand can look forward to a unique cultural experience that showcases the essence of Fijian artistry.
