Fijian Drua Women’s Team Prepares for Thrilling Super W Season Kickoff!

The Fijian Drua Women’s rugby team is ready to launch their Super W season with an exhilarating match against the Waratahs this weekend in Sydney. Notably, the team will introduce six debutants, including Olympic bronze medalist Alowesi Nakoci. This season marks a significant opportunity for new and returning athletes to contribute to the team’s ambitions in the competitive landscape of women’s rugby.

Among the six newcomers, four players—Alowesi Nakoci, Alfreda Fisher, Josivini Naihamu, and Salaseini Railumu—are set to start, while Isabella Koi and Litiana Vueti will add depth coming off the bench. In addition to these new talents, the lineup also welcomes back Kolora Lomani, enhancing the squad’s experience and skill set.

Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has appointed Vika Matarugu as the captain of the team, with Vitalina Naikore assisting. Karalaini Naisewa, who will make her 21st appearance, holds the title of most capped player in the lineup, demonstrating her leadership and longevity within the team.

Eleven players from the match-day squad were part of last season’s grand final team against the Waratahs, which bodes well for continuity as they aim to build on their previous successes. With a solid mix of experience and fresh talent, the Drua Women are looking to make a notable impact this season, not just in terms of performance but also in promoting the growth of women’s rugby within Fiji and the broader Pacific region.

The opening match is scheduled for Friday at 6:05 pm local time and will be broadcast live on FBC Sports. Enthusiasts are encouraged to support the team as they kick off a season filled with potential and excitement.

The blend of veteran players and newcomers heralds hope and excitement, setting an optimistic tone for what lies ahead in the Super W competition.
