The 2025 Super Rugby Women’s competition has announced an exciting schedule, featuring the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women hosting two matches. If the Drua Women finish in the top two during the regular season, they will have the opportunity to host a semi-final match in Fiji. This season will mark a historic moment as it introduces the inaugural Super Rugby Champions final, where the winner of Super Rugby W will face the champion of New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aupiki.
The Drua will play their first home match against the Reds on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The match is part of a double-header event, starting at 1.05 pm, followed by the Drua Men facing the Chiefs at 3.30 pm. A week later, on March 15, the Drua Women will challenge the Brumbies Women in a standalone match at 3.30 pm.
The season commences for the Fijian Drua Women on February 28, against the Waratahs at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. Following that, they will return to Fiji for their matches against the Reds and Brumbies, concluding the regular season with a game against the Western Force in Perth on March 23.
The semi-finals for Super Rugby W are scheduled for the weekend of April 5, with the top two ranked teams as hosts, followed by the Grand Final on April 12 and the crossover final on April 17.
Mark Evans, the chief executive officer of Fijian Drua, noted the team’s success in winning the Super Rugby Women’s title in 2022 and 2023, and finishing as runners-up in 2024. Evans expressed the team’s aspiration to reclaim the championship in 2025, acknowledging the challenges ahead. He highlighted that the Drua Women are undergoing a rebuilding phase with a new interim head coach and increased depth in their player pool.
“Hosting two matches in Fiji is fantastic for our fans,” Evans stated, emphasizing the significance of their game on International Women’s Day. The organization is committed to creating a memorable experience for fans, particularly for this special occasion.
This announcement is a promising development for women’s rugby in Fiji and offers an opportunity for local fans to rally around their team, fostering a sense of community and support. The initiatives taken to improve facilities and player resources reflect a commitment to elevating the sport and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.
In summary, the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s competition is poised to be an exhilarating season, filled with opportunities for the Fijian Drua Women as they aim for continued success and community engagement.
