The Fijian Drua Women are focusing on achieving greater consistency and resilience as they prepare for a challenging away match against the Western Force in the SmartTech Super Rugby Women’s competition. Following a hard-fought victory against the Brumbies, the team is intent on refining their ball retention and minimizing handling errors, which have previously affected their performance.
Captain Bitila Tawake reflected on their recent win, highlighting that mistakes crept into their game but commended the team’s spirit for bouncing back after a shaky start. “Just from the game today, it was about keeping the ball alive and fixing those mistakes like drop balls. But it’s really great that the girls punched back in the second half, and we got the win,” Tawake stated.
As they look ahead to their next challenge, Tawake recognized the strength of the Western Force when they play at home but remains confident in her team’s ability to harness their trademark Fijian power. “We know the Western Force always give a good fight on their home ground, and we’re coming with that Fijian power. We’re not going down without a fight,” she asserted.
Both the Drua men’s and women’s teams will travel to Perth for a double-header match against the Western Force this Sunday, with both games set to be broadcast live on FBC Sports. This event not only serves as a chance for the Drua Women to shine on the field but also continues to elevate the status of women’s rugby in the Pacific, showcasing the community’s growing support for female athletes.
In light of the Drua’s journey, there is an increased emphasis on inspiring young female athletes and reflecting the commitment to building women’s sports in the region. With their sights set on improvement and community support behind them, the Drua Women are poised for an exhilarating match, embodying the resilience and ambition required to succeed in the Super W season.
