Pacific Fishing Company Pte Limited (PAFCO) has officially become a sponsor of the Fijian Drua rugby team, introducing its well-known “Sun Bell” brand into the mix. This partnership marks the beginning of a three-year sponsorship agreement, which includes the launch of the inaugural Sun Bell Drua 10s tournament.
The newly established tournament is set to commemorate some of Fiji’s leading provincial talents as they compete alongside members of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua. This annual event will feature two teams from the Drua Men’s squad and six provincial teams, providing a platform for local players to showcase their skills.
Mark Evans, the CEO of the Fijian Drua, expressed enthusiasm for this new alliance, noting PAFCO’s significant role in Fiji’s economy and culture. “It is wonderful for us to welcome an organisation like the Pacific Fishing Company to our family of sponsors,” he remarked. Evans acknowledged that many young Fijians grew up knowing about PAFCO, and this partnership will further elevate both the Sun Bell brand and the Fijian Drua’s presence in the community, especially on the island of Ovalau, where PAFCO is based.
PAFCO’s CEO, Saiyad Raiyum, shared his excitement about the collaboration, affirming the company’s long-standing heritage in Fiji. With the Sun Bell brand celebrated for over 50 years, Raiyum highlighted the pride in supporting the Drua teams in the Super Rugby Pacific competition and noted that their canned products, made from pure tuna, will serve as a nutritious meal source for the teams during their upcoming seasons.
This partnership not only showcases the strong bond between local enterprises and sports but also offers promising opportunities for community engagement and development through sport.
In summary, the strategic partnership between PAFCO and the Fijian Drua represents a mutual commitment to strengthening the community and enhancing local sporting talent. The introduction of the Sun Bell Drua 10s tournament serves as a positive step toward fostering sporting excellence in Fiji while creating lasting relations between businesses and athletes.
