The Fijian Drua has officially announced the signing of Vuate Karawalevu, a utility back for the Flying Fijians, on a full-time contract. The 23-year-old made his national team debut during the Pacific Nations Cup match against Samoa last Friday, marking him as a double international athlete.
Previously, Karawalevu represented the Fiji Bati at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England when he was just 20 years old. In the match against Samoa, he played as a full-back, contributing significantly to Fiji’s 42-16 victory by scoring a try.
Last season, Karawalevu participated in Super Rugby Pacific with the NSW Waratahs. He began his journey in rugby at Marist Brothers High School and later played first five-eighth for Naitasiri, helping the team reach the Skipper Cup grand final in 2020.
His career also includes stints with the Kaiviti Silktails in the Ron Massey Cup, the North Sydney Bears in the NSW Cup, and training with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL. Karawalevu expressed enthusiasm about returning home to join the Drua, stating he feels “incredibly excited and blessed” for the opportunity. He emphasized his eagerness to play for his home team and give his all on the field while representing his roots.
