The schedule for the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s competition has been unveiled, highlighting an exciting season for fans of the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua W, who will host two significant matches in Fiji.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Fijian Drua W will face off against the Reds on March 8 at Churchill Park in Lautoka, starting at 1:05 PM. This match will be part of a doubleheader, with the men’s team also playing against the Chiefs at 3:30 PM, providing a day full of sports action for attendees.
Just a week later, on March 15, the Fijian Drua W will clash with the Brumbies W in another thrilling matchup at the same venue, scheduled for 3:30 PM. These games are anticipated to create an electric atmosphere for local supporters.
The Drua will kick off their 2025 campaign against the Waratahs on February 28 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. After the two home games, the regular season will conclude with an away match against the Western Force on March 23 at HBF Park in Perth. The top two teams from the regular season will then compete in the semi-finals on the weekend of April 5, leading up to the grand final set for April 12. Notably, on April 17, the first-ever Super Rugby champions final will showcase the winner of Super Rugby W facing the champion of New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aupiki.
Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua, reflected on the team’s strong history, having secured consecutive Super Rugby W titles in 2022 and 2023, and finishing as runners-up in 2024. He emphasized that the 2025 season will be a time for rebuilding under a new interim head coach, Ifereimi Rawaqa. “We obviously want to return to the winner’s podium in 2025, but we know it will not be easy,” he remarked. To support this initiative, significant investments in facilities have been made in the off-season to ensure the team is thoroughly prepared.
The opportunity to host matches in Fiji generates excitement among fans, with Evans expressing enthusiasm about the celebratory plans for International Women’s Day. “We are already planning on making that day a special experience for our fans,” he stated.
This upcoming season promises to be a pivotal one, not just for the Fijian Drua W but for women’s rugby as a whole, showcasing the growth and competitive spirit of the sport in the region.
In summary, the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s competition is gearing up to be captivating, especially with the Fijian Drua W hosting significant matches that celebrate both their legacy and the advancement of women’s sports. As the Drua embark on a rebuilding phase, there is optimism for growth and success in the coming season.
