The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, featuring an impressive lineup of 32 Flying Fijians, including the national co-captain Tevita Ikanivere. This announcement follows a fruitful off-season recruitment where all five new additions are also Flying Fijians, indicating a strong commitment to local talent capable of making significant contributions to the team.
Among the squad, three members are Silver Medalists from the Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics, showcasing the high caliber of players assembled. The development squad also includes promising young players poised for future success.
Head Coach Glen Jackson praised the balance of the team, noting minimal player departures and the return of experienced individuals, such as Joe Tamani, who has previously provided excitement for the Drua. Ikanivere and halfback Lomani will assume leadership roles, with Ikanivere bringing extensive experience and being the player with the most appearances for the Drua.
Lomani expressed his excitement over being named co-captain alongside Ikanivere, highlighting the team’s growth over the past three years in the competition.
Significant additions to the squad include 50-Test capped Peni Ravai from the Queensland Reds, tough centre Inia Tabuavou from Racing 92, and Vuate Karawalevu from the NSW Waratahs. The squad also welcomes Olympic Silver Medalist Ponipate Loganimasi and returning flanker Joseva Tamani from the Colomiers Rugby Club in France.
The team comprises a variety of skilled players in every position, creating a formidable lineup ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season. With a strong focus on homegrown talent and the inclusion of experienced international players, the Drua looks well-equipped to make a significant impact in the competition.
As the Fijian Drua gears up for the new season, there’s much to be hopeful about. The blend of seasoned players and emerging talents sets a promising foundation for an exciting year ahead.
In summary, the Fijian Drua’s 2025 squad not only reflects the strength of Fijian rugby talent but also showcases a commitment to nurturing young players while integrating experienced athletes to enhance their performance in Super Rugby.
