The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby squad, featuring 32 talented Flying Fijians, including the national co-captain. This announcement coincides with a fruitful off-season recruitment effort, as all five new signings for the upcoming season are Flying Fijians, anticipated to significantly influence the competition. Notably, three squad members recently earned Silver Medals in Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The squad also includes a development group comprising promising young Fijian players poised for future success. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed confidence in the team’s balance, noting minimal player losses from the previous season and the strategic inclusion of experienced players, primarily from overseas. Among the returning players is Joe Tamani, who previously electrified performances in the first two seasons.

For the first time in its history, the Fijian Drua has appointed co-captains: hooker Tevita Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani. Ikanivere has been a pivotal player, holding the record for the most appearances in the team’s history with 38 and ranking second in tries scored for the club. Lomani, with 53 caps, brings substantial experience to the squad.

Both Ikanivere and Lomani expressed their pride in receiving the captaincy call-up, highlighting the team’s growth and their excitement for the upcoming season. Ikanivere expressed gratitude to Coach Jackson for trusting him, while Lomani emphasized the emotional significance of the role, reflecting on the team’s journey from its inception.

The squad has been strengthened by the addition of experienced players like Peni Ravai, who has 50 Test caps, and Inia Tabuavou, who brings valuable experience from top European leagues. Vuate Karawalevu is also returning to Fiji after playing with the NSW Waratahs, adding to the team’s depth in the back field. Notably, Ponipate Loganimasi, a Silver Medalist from the Paris Olympics, joins the squad, promising to enhance the team’s speed and agility.

In total, the Drua’s roster includes a robust mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, highlighting the club’s commitment to building a competitive and dynamic team for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season.

This season promises much for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, as blending established talent with newcomers could set the stage for exciting games and potential victories. With strong leadership and a diverse skill set, fans can hope for a thrilling competition ahead.
