The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, showcasing an impressive lineup of 32 players, including the national co-captain. This announcement marks the conclusion of a fruitful off-season recruitment effort, which saw the addition of five new Flying Fijian players anticipated to significantly enhance the team’s performance. Among the squad are three players who recently earned Silver Medals in Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The announcement also highlights a development squad filled with promising young Fijian talent poised to achieve greater honors in the future.

Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed optimism about the team’s structure, noting, “It’s a very well-balanced side. We haven’t lost many players from last year, and the new signings come with valuable experience primarily from overseas.” He specifically mentioned Joe Tamani’s return from France, whose presence previously invigorated the team.

For the first time in its history, the Fijian Drua has appointed co-captains: hooker Tevita Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani. Ikanivere, a seasoned player with the most appearances for the Drua, and Lomani, the squad’s most experienced member, will lead the team into the new season. Ikanivere expressed gratitude for the captaincy opportunity, while Lomani conveyed excitement about the journey the team has taken since its inception.

New recruits are a notable addition to the squad, including 50-Test capped Flying Fijian Peni Ravai from the Queensland Reds, and center Inia Tabuavou from Racing 92 in France. Another exciting addition is Ponipate Loganimasi, a Silver Medalist from the Paris Olympics. Also returning is flanker Joseva Tamani, who comes back from Colomiers Rugby Club in France.

The squad is predominantly composed of Flying Fijians, including loosehead and tighthead props, hookers, locks, and a powerful back row featuring several noteworthy flankers.

With a blend of seasoned talent and emerging athletes, the Fijian Drua is poised for an impactful season ahead, bringing hope and excitement for fans and supporters.

This new lineup not only strengthens the team but also showcases the depth of Fijian rugby talent, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming competitions. The leadership structure, combined with fresh recruits, aims to elevate the Fijian Drua to new heights in the Super Rugby Pacific arena.
