The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially revealed its 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby squad, which is comprised of 32 talented Flying Fijians, including co-captain Tevita Ikanivere. This announcement follows a successful off-season recruitment campaign that has seen the addition of five new players, all of whom are expected to significantly contribute to the team’s performance in the upcoming competition.
Among the squad members, three athletes have recently earned silver medals in Rugby 7s during the 2024 Paris Olympics, showcasing the high level of talent present. The development squad aims to cultivate a group of emerging Fijian players who are on the trajectory toward achieving even greater honors in the future.
Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed confidence in the squad, stating, “It’s a very well-balanced side. We haven’t lost many players from last year, and those brought in have experience, mostly from overseas.” Jackson emphasized the return of seasoned player Joe Tamani, who adds excitement and depth following a year away from the team.
Tevita Ikanivere, the hooker, and halfback Lomani have been entrusted with the leadership responsibilities for the new season. Ikanivere has been a reliable figure for the Drua, appearing in 38 matches and ranking second in try-scoring for the club. His experience is further underscored by his co-captaincy of the Flying Fijians, with whom he recently celebrated a historic victory over Wales.
Lomani, the squad’s most seasoned player with 53 appearances, expressed his excitement about being named co-captain alongside Ikanivere. He remarked on the team’s growth throughout its journey in the competition.
The squad has been enhanced by the addition of Peni Ravai, who has 50 international caps. Ravai brings further strength to the forward pack, having played previously with the Queensland Reds. Meanwhile, Inia Tabuavou arrives from France’s Racing 92, and Vuate Karawalevu rejoins the Drua after his stint with the NSW Waratahs.
The squad features a mix of experience and youthful talent. Young players like Phillip Baselala and Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula are expected to play key roles alongside established stars such as Iosefo Masi, the all-time leading try scorer for the Drua.
