The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially unveiled its 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby squad, boasting a roster of 32 Flying Fijians, including the national co-captain. This announcement follows a successful recruitment drive in the off-season, introducing five new signings, all of whom are Flying Fijians. Notably, three of the squad members are among the Silver Medalists from the Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The development squad includes several promising young Fijian players who are on track for future achievements in their rugby careers. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed satisfaction with the team composition, emphasizing that the squad maintains a strong core from last year while integrating players with valuable international experience. Jackson highlighted the return of Joe Tamani from France, who was instrumental in the team’s earlier successes.

For the first time in its history, the Fijian Drua appointed co-captains for the upcoming season. Hooker Tevita Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani will share leadership responsibilities. Ikanivere brings a wealth of experience with 38 appearances for the Drua and shares the captaincy of the Flying Fijians, while Lomani is the most seasoned player in the squad, with 53 appearances. Both players expressed their gratitude for being entrusted with the captaincy, underscoring their commitment to leading the team effectively.

The squad has been strengthened by the addition of former Queensland Reds front-rower Peni Ravai, along with tough center Inia Tabuavou from Racing 92 and Vuate Karawalevu, who has returned to Fiji after time with the NSW Waratahs. The Drua has also welcomed speedster Ponipate Loganimasi, a Paris Olympics Silver Medalist, and flanker Joseva Tamani, who rejoins the team from France.

The roster is bolstered with local talent, featuring strong front and back row players, as well as a solid combination of seasoned and emerging players, setting a promising stage for the upcoming season.

This announcement signals a positive trajectory for the Fijian Drua as they prepare for the 2025 season, blending youth and experience in their squad. The inclusion of Olympic medalists and returning players who have previously shone in the competition reflects the team’s ambition to compete at the highest level.

Overall, the Drua appears well-positioned for a compelling season, aiming to build on their achievements and create a strong legacy in Super Rugby.
