The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby, featuring a robust lineup of 32 Flying Fijians, including national co-captain Tevita Ikanivere. The announcement marks a successful recruitment period with five new signings, all of whom are expected to significantly impact the competition. Notably, three players in the squad were Silver Medallists in Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The development squad highlights emerging Fijian talents who are on the path to achieving greater honors in the future. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed optimism about the team’s composition, noting the mix of experienced players returning alongside a largely young core. Veteran Joe Tamani, returning from France, is anticipated to bring back the excitement he generated in the team’s earlier seasons.

For the first time, the Fijian Drua has appointed co-captains, with Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani taking up leadership roles for the upcoming season. Ikanivere, who boasts the most appearances for the Drua (38), and Lomani, the squad’s most experienced player with 53 caps, are both recognized for their contributions and leadership skills.

Ikanivere shared his gratitude, stating, “It is a very big honour and a pleasure for me to be chosen,” while Lomani expressed his excitement about the new responsibility, highlighting the team’s growth over the years.

The squad has been bolstered by several notable recruits, including Peni Ravai, a 50-Test capped Flying Fijian who joins from the Queensland Reds, and Inia Tabuavou from Racing 92. Additionally, former NSW Waratahs player Vuate Karawalevu and Olympic Silver Medalist Ponipate Loganimasi also join the roster, promising a thrilling season ahead.

As the Drua gears up for the upcoming season, the mix of experienced players and promising newcomers suggests a bright future. The team’s commitment to developing local talent showcases Fiji’s rich rugby heritage and sets the stage for an exciting chapter in Super Rugby.

This well-structured squad not only draws on past achievements but is also focused on future successes. Fans eagerly anticipate what the 2025 season has in store for the Fijian Drua, as they continue to evolve and compete at high levels.
