The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has revealed its squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby, which includes 32 players, all of whom are Flying Fijians, including the national team’s co-captain. This announcement marks a successful off-season recruitment campaign, adding five new players who are expected to significantly enhance the team’s performance. Notably, three squad members earned Silver Medals in Rugby 7s at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team also features a development squad filled with promising young Fijian talents poised for future success. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed confidence in the team’s balance and experience, noting only a few departures from the previous year while highlighting the return of impactful players like Joe Tamani from France.
In a significant leadership step, the Drua has appointed co-captains for the first time in its history: hooker Tevita Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani. Ikanivere, a powerhouse with 38 appearances, has a history of leadership within the team and contributed to the national squad’s recent historic win against Wales. Lomani, the squad’s most experienced player, has been an integral part of the team’s journey since its inception.
The Drua has welcomed new recruits, including 50-Test capped Peni Ravai from Queensland Reds and tough centre Inia Tabuavou from Racing 92. They also see the return of flanker Joseva Tamani from Colomiers Rugby Club, expanding an already dynamic roster.
In summary, the Fijian Drua has established a capable squad filled with experienced players and promising newcomers, setting a hopeful tone for their participation in the upcoming Super Rugby season. With strong co-captains and a balanced team dynamic, there is great optimism surrounding their performance in 2025. This investment in both experienced veterans and fresh talent indicates a bright future for Fiji’s rugby ambitions on the international stage.
