The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby squad, consisting of 32 players, including the co-captain of the national team. This announcement follows a successful recruitment phase in the off-season, with all five new signings being Flying Fijians, expected to significantly enhance the team’s performance. Notably, three members of the squad are Silver Medalists from the 2024 Paris Olympic Rugby 7s team.
The younger players on the development squad show promise for future success, indicating a strong pipeline of talent in Fiji. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed his confidence in a well-rounded team, highlighting that few players have departed since last year and the new recruits bring valuable overseas experience.
For the first time, the Fijian Drua will have co-captains: hooker Tevita Ikanivere and halfback Frank Lomani. Ikanivere has proven leadership ability, holding the record for the most appearances for the Drua at 38 and ranking second in tries scored with ten. Lomani, the most experienced player in the squad, brings 53 appearances, contributing to the team’s legacy with his exceptional skills.
Ikanivere expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead, while Lomani reflected on the team’s journey and his excitement for their continued development in the competition.
The squad sees the addition of seasoned players like 50-Test capped Peni Ravai and centre Inia Tabuavou, both of whom will aim to make a significant impact. Young talent Vuate Karawalevu and Olympic Silver Medalist Ponipate Loganimasi also join the ranks, further reinforcing the squad’s agility and strength.
This year’s lineup features a robust collection of positions: the loosehead props include Haereiti Hetet and Livai Natave, while tighthead props include Mesake Doge and Peni Ravai. The hooker trio consists of co-captain Ikanivere, Mesulame Dolokoto, and Zuriel Togiatama. Meanwhile, the second-row includes experienced locks such as Isoa Nasilasila and Leone Rotuisolia, complemented by a dynamic backrow.
The Fijian Drua’s 2025 roster promises to bring an exciting season filled with talent and strong leadership. This development signals optimism for both players and fans, as they look forward to a competitive year in Super Rugby.
In summary, the Fijian Drua’s commitment to nurturing local talent, along with the integration of experienced players, sets a hopeful tone for the 2025 season, showcasing a blend of youth and experience aimed at achieving success on the rugby field.
