The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are embracing the off-season as a crucial period for reflection and preparation ahead of the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific campaign. After a challenging previous season, veteran prop Mesulame Doge has expressed that the team’s performance has fueled a strong desire to improve.
Doge noted that the disappointing results from last season, which saw the Drua secure only four victories against ten defeats and ultimately finish 10th in the standings, became a pivotal moment for the players. He emphasized the importance of using those challenges as learning experiences. “Even for me as a player, I felt a bit down, because that was what we didn’t expect as a team. But with what happened, that was a big lesson for us. It made me really reflect on myself and what I could do better,” Doge shared.
During the off-season, the team has diligently worked on addressing their shortcomings, and the focus has been on both individual and collective improvement. The Drua’s preparations will include intense training and strategy sessions aimed at correcting past mistakes and fostering a winning mindset.
Looking ahead, the Drua are set to kick off their new season against Moana Pasifika in February at Churchill Park in Lautoka, a game that promises to be significant as they aim to turn their fortunes around. With renewed determination and lessons learned from the past, the team is optimistic about achieving better results and elevating their standing in the league.
