The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s partnership with the Flying Fijians has proven to be a vital asset for Fiji Rugby, enhancing the skills and strength of its players. Head coach Mick Byrne emphasized that the inclusion of Drua players in the national team significantly benefits their development and performance.

Throughout the year, the Drua contributed notably to the national squad, especially highlighted during the recent Autumn Nations Test Series. In their final Test match against Ireland, a remarkable 12 Drua players took to the field, showcasing their talent on an international stage. These players included co-captain Tevita Ikanivere and other talents such as Mesake Vocevoce and Frank Lomani.

Byrne pointed out that the consistent training of Drua athletes in a professional environment, combined with the experience of Northern Hemisphere players, strengthens the national team as a whole. With the Drua now entering its third year, this collaboration is expected to yield further benefits, fostering depth and resilience within Fiji Rugby.

The future looks promising as Byrne believes that integrating players from both the Drua and established professionals will ensure a robust development path for Fiji Rugby, setting the stage for continued success on the global platform.

This symbiotic relationship between the Drua and the national team is a hopeful sign for Fiji Rugby, suggesting a bright future filled with potential and growth in the sport.
