Emosi Tuqiri, the front rower for the Fijian Drua, has solidified his future with the club by extending his contract for another two seasons, ensuring his place through to 2027 in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition. Originating from Nadroga and making his debut during the 2023 season opener against Moana Pasifika, Tuqiri has quickly made an impact with 22 appearances, gaining recognition for his consistent performances and strong work ethic.
Expressing his gratitude, Tuqiri shared, “Grateful and blessed to be given another opportunity to go to battle with the brothers for a few more seasons,” and thanked the organization for their belief in him as he looks forward to continuing his journey with the team. His skill set and potential were further affirmed by Fijian Drua’s General Manager of Rugby, Baden Stephenson, who noted Tuqiri’s growing capabilities on the field and his strong game sense.
In addition to his club career, Tuqiri was part of the Flying Fijians squad for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, although he has yet to make a test appearance at that level. His previous success with Fiji’s Under-20 team, where he contributed to their victory at the 2019 Rugby Europe Championship in Romania, showcases his trajectory as a promising talent in Fijian rugby.
Tuqiri’s contract extension aligns with the Fijian Drua’s broader strategy of nurturing local talent while maintaining competitiveness, similar to the recent re-signings of other pivotal players like Mesulame Dolokoto and Zuriel Togiatama. This collective commitment reflects the team’s focus on enhancing depth and stability within the squad as they prepare for future seasons.
As the Fijian Drua continues to solidify its roster, fans can remain optimistic about the potential for success in the upcoming seasons, with Tuqiri and his teammates poised to make significant contributions on the field. The encouragement surrounding local talents promises a bright future for the team and Fijian rugby overall.
