The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially signed Fijian rugby star and silver medalist from the Paris Olympics, Ponipate Loganimasi, to a full-time contract. The talented speedster will join his fellow Olympic teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua’s squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
At just 26 years old, Loganimasi made an impressive debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan. He stepped in for Ravutaumada, who was injured during the tournament’s opening rounds.
Originating from Ono-i-Lau and having family ties to Nabua in Savusavu, Loganimasi scored an impressive total of 35 tries during the 2023-24 World Series with the Fijian 7s team before clinching a silver medal in Paris. He also showcased his skills at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament, playing for the Fiji Babaas team and made his local competition debut last year, captaining the Kombat Uluinakau team at the Nawaka 7s.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Fijian Drua, Loganimasi stated, “I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity. It’s a big one, and I know many kids in Fiji dream of playing for the Drua. I feel blessed to have this chance.” He also expressed gratitude to the Drua management for their confidence in him and looked forward to training with the team.
Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson noted the significance of Loganimasi’s signing, emphasizing the caliber of players joining the club. He praised Loganimasi’s performance in both the 15s and 7s format, predicting he will be a valuable addition to the team.
Loganimasi is the latest among the five Flying Fijians secured by the Drua during this off-season, highlighting a strong recruitment effort that included international players like Joseva Tamani, Peni Ravai, Inia Tabuavou, and Vuate Karawalevu.
