The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has unveiled its squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, showcasing a roster of 32 players, all of whom are Flying Fijians, including national co-captain Tevita Ikanivere. This announcement comes after a productive off-season recruitment campaign, which saw the addition of five new signings who are anticipated to significantly impact the competition.

Among the squad, three players are recognized Olympic Silver Medallists from the Rugby 7s team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The development squad is also packed with promising young talent, setting the stage for future successes.

Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson emphasized the squad’s balanced composition, noting the retention of many players from last year and the seasoned experience brought in from abroad, such as Joe Tamani returning from France. Ikanivere, who has the highest number of appearances for the Drua (38) and ranks second in the club’s try-scoring history, will lead alongside halfback Lomani, who possesses the most experience in the squad with 53 appearances.

Ikanivere expressed gratitude for the leadership opportunity, while Lomani shared his excitement about being named co-captain, reflecting on the team’s growth over the years. Their leadership will steer a squad augmented by experienced players like Peni Ravai from the Queensland Reds and Inia Tabuavou from France’s Racing 92.

The Drua’s lineup showcases a robust mix of experienced and young players, indicating a strong future for the team. The return of flanker Joseva Tamani and the recruitment of promising players, including Olympic Silver Medallist Ponipate Loganimasi, further enhance the squad’s prospects.

The team features a powerful front row with all-Flying Fijian hookers and a second row comprised of experienced locks, while the back row includes a talented mix of flankers. With all four halfbacks from last season returning, led by Lomani, the team is poised for success.

Key players such as Caleb Muntz, who shone in the recent victory against Wales, and Iosefo Masi, the all-time leading try scorer for the Drua, highlight the talent within the squad. The inclusion of speedy players in the back three further amplifies the team’s attacking potential.

As the Fijian Drua gears up for the upcoming season, their rich blend of experience and youthful energy positions them well to make a significant impact in Super Rugby Pacific, providing hope for fans and supporters alike. This season promises thrilling rugby and the potential for achieving new heights in the competition.

Overall, the Drua’s commitment to developing local talent, combined with strategic recruitment, breeds optimism for a successful year ahead.
