The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua have taken a significant step in enhancing their squad for upcoming seasons by re-signing three pivotal players, a move that underlines the club’s commitment to its long-term objectives.
Haereiti Hetet, a solid prop and a foundational member of the Drua since its inaugural 2022 season, has extended his contract until the conclusion of the 2027 season. Over his tenure, Hetet has made 39 appearances, contributed one try, and earned 24 caps for the Flying Fijians, participating in the Rugby World Cup.
Coach Glen Jackson highlighted the importance of these re-signings, stating, “It’s exceptional for the club to secure three outstanding players. Hetet is a quality loosehead prop and a vital part of our group. As a Flying Fijian and Rugby World Cup player, having him re-sign with the club is a huge boost.” Hetet expressed gratitude for being granted the opportunity to continue his journey with the Drua, appreciating the support from coaches and management.
Joining him in their commitments are winger Taniela Rakuro and young talent Isikeli Rabitu, both of whom have extended their contracts for an additional two seasons, set to run until 2028. Rabitu, a 2024 debutant, has quickly ascended to become one of the club’s brightest prospects, recording four tries in 14 appearances since rising from the Deans competition and representing the Fiji Under 20 team.
Jackson praised Rabitu as “one of the brightest young talents” and crucial for the club’s future. Rabitu expressed his thanks to his faith and the support from the club’s management, acknowledging their trust in extending his contract.
Rakuro, the dynamic winger from Nadroga, has also made a significant impact, holding the title of the Drua’s second-highest try-scorer with nine tries, matching co-captain Frank Lomani. After debuting in 2023, Rakuro’s performance earned him his Flying Fijians debut during the 2025 Pacific Nations Cup against Tonga, where he has since accumulated five Test caps.
With a blend of experience and youthful talent secured, the Drua are not only strengthening their squad but are also laying the groundwork for future success in the Super Rugby Pacific. The team is preparing for their upcoming match against the Waratahs this Friday at 8:35 PM, which will be broadcast live on FBC Sports, offering fans an exciting opportunity to witness their progress.
