Fijian Drua CEO Jeff Miller is optimistic about the future of the franchise, asserting that it has established a solid foundation within the professional rugby landscape. Following a disappointing performance in the 2025 Shop N Save Supermarket Super Rugby Pacific campaign, Miller is confident that the club is well-positioned for a rebound.
Miller, who recently relocated to Fiji and underwent a comprehensive week-long induction, expressed how this early immersion has strengthened his belief in the Drua’s long-term objectives. With extensive experience in Australian rugby, including leadership roles with Rugby Australia and the Queensland Reds, he noted that the Drua’s infrastructure and operational standards are on par with the most elite programs in the region.
Reflecting on his initial impressions, Miller stated, “I’ve got to say, I’ve been associated with rugby in Australia through RA. I’ve been the chairman of the Queensland Reds. I’ve been a CEO and a coach there as well. And I could not fault what the team has done in its first four years.” He emphasized the franchise’s world-class training facilities and robust community engagement as critical factors that distinguish the Drua.
Although last year’s on-field results did not meet the club’s expectations, Miller remains hopeful that the lessons learned will catalyze better performance in the upcoming season. He emphasized that a combination of effective systems, a distinct identity, and extensive nationwide support assures him that the Drua is on a path to sustainable success.
As the new season approaches, the Drua are preparing for pre-season matches, first taking on the Chiefs in New Zealand on January 30, followed by a game against the Skipper Select team on February 6 at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Their season opener will be against Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park on February 14, marking a new chapter in their quest for success.
This unwavering confidence from Miller, alongside the strong community ties and preparations currently underway, illustrates a hopeful outlook for the Fijian Drua as they strive to enhance their performance and build on their foundation in the rugby world.
