The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the release of promising young centre Waqa Nalaga. At just 21 years old, Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece, joined the Drua last year after showcasing his talent with the Fiji U20s and during his time in New Zealand.

Nalaga comes from a notable rugby family; he is the son of former Flying Fijians winger Kavekini Nalaga and the brother of ex-national representative Napolioni Nalaga. His skills had previously earned him a place among the four centres selected for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

In an official statement, the Drua confirmed the club had followed the proper protocols regarding Nalaga’s departure, although they have opted not to provide further details on the matter.

This turn of events opens up new opportunities for both Nalaga and the Drua. The young centre may seek to find a club that better fits his ambitions and allows him to further develop his skills. For the Drua, this situation could pave the way for introducing fresh talent into the squad, which can invigorate the team dynamics as they prepare for future competitions.

Overall, while the release may come as a surprise to some fans, it can also be a hopeful milestone for both Nalaga and the Fijian Drua, as they take steps toward achieving their personal and collective goals in rugby.
