Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the signing of Fijian 7s star and Paris Olympics silver medallist Ponipate Loganimasi on a full-time contract for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
Fans are excited about Loganimasi joining his Olympic teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua men’s squad. The 26-year-old made a strong impression in his debut for the Flying Fijians, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan after stepping in for the injured Ravutaumada.
Loganimasi hails from Ono-i-Lau and has maternal roots in Nabua, Savusavu. He has made a notable mark in the sevens circuit, netting 35 tries during the 2023-24 World Series campaign, which contributed to Fiji’s silver medal at the Paris Olympics. He also displayed his talents at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament while playing for the Fiji Babaas team.
In a statement about his new role with the Drua, Loganimasi expressed his gratitude, saying, “I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity. Many kids in Fiji dream of playing for the Drua team, and I am blessed to have this chance.”
Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson praised Loganimasi’s capabilities, highlighting, “His debut with the 15s team was incredible. We know how good he is on the sevens circuit, and he will be a great addition to our team.”
Loganimasi marks the fifth Flying Fijian to join the Drua this off-season, adding to a talented roster that includes Joseva Tamani, Peni Ravai, Inia Tabuavou, and Vuate Karawalevu. As the Drua gears up for the 2025 season, Loganimasi’s addition is expected to bolster the team’s competitiveness.
