The Fijian Drua is proudly launching its annual Community Blitz, starting with a visit to the passionate fans in Vanua Levu. Ben Takubu, the Community Programme Lead, emphasized the initiative’s aim to promote healthy lifestyles while nurturing future rugby players.
“The Community Blitz focuses on engaging with the public to inspire young individuals to adopt healthy habits through showcasing active living, nutritious eating, and the joy of rugby via the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR),” Takubu shared. He also noted that this effort serves to energize fans about the upcoming season and home matches.
Moreover, this initiative presents a valuable personal development opportunity for players of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua. It reinforces their role as influential figures in the community, reminding them of their representation of both local communities and the nation whenever they don their Drua uniforms.
As part of the Community Blitz, the Drua will be visiting various schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, Sanatan Dharam Primary School, John Wesley Primary School, Pundit Vishnu Primary School, Lautoka Methodist Primary School, Lautoka Central Primary School, Vatukoula Marist Convent School, and Tavua Primary School. The selection of schools involved in this community initiative was made in partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit.
This community-oriented program not only fosters athletic talent but also enriches the bond between the Drua players and local fans, creating a unified sense of pride and support as the new season approaches. The emphasis on health and fitness could inspire many young individuals to lead active lives, contributing positively to their communities.
In summary, the Fijian Drua is not just preparing for a new rugby season but is also investing in the health and future of the youth in Fiji through its Community Blitz, reinforcing the idea that sports can play a significant role in community well-being.
