Swire Shipping Fijian Drua coach Glen Jackson has praised forwards Elia Canakaivata and winger Ponipate Loganimasi, who are set to join Sale Sharks after the conclusion of the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific campaign. Their departure is a considerable loss for the Drua, which has depended on their physicality and strong work ethic during the season.
Despite this setback, Jackson views their move as a recognition of the organization’s ability to cultivate talented players. “Elia has been unbelievable,” remarked Jackson. “His commitment and age make him deserving of the opportunity overseas. Although it’s not ideal to lose quality players, the fact that Canakaivata is heading to a prestigious team like the Sale Sharks speaks volumes about the pathway the Drua is establishing. As for Poni, it’s unfortunate he’s only been here for a year before moving on, but he has made the decision to pursue this opportunity.”
Jackson emphasized that while the loss of key players poses challenges, the club takes pride in witnessing its athletes achieve international success. Canakaivata has emerged as one of the Drua’s most reliable forwards, known for his consistency and maturity. Loganimasi, despite spending only one season in the league, made a significant impact, showcasing his tremendous potential.
While Canakaivata is poised to start at number 8 in the upcoming match against the Hurricanes, Loganimasi will unfortunately miss out due to a hip injury. The highly anticipated matchup between the Drua and Hurricanes is scheduled for Saturday at 3:35 PM, with live coverage available on FBC Sports.
As the Drua continues to develop and send talent overseas, it reflects not just a loss but also a sign of growth and future promise within the club.
