Fijian Drua Boosts Squad with Olympic Silver Medallist Ponipate Loganimasi!

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the signing of Fijian 7s star Ponipate Loganimasi, a silver medalist from the Paris Olympics, on a full-time contract. Fans are thrilled as Loganimasi will join his Olympic teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua Men’s squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.

At just 26 years old, Loganimasi made an immediate impression during his debut for the national 15’s team by scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan. He was brought into the Flying Fijians after Ravutaumada sustained an injury in the tournament’s first round.

Originating from Ono-i-Lau and with family roots in Nabua, Savusavu, Loganimasi netted 35 tries in his short tenure with the Fijian 7’s team during the 2023-24 World Series campaign and clinched a silver medal in Paris.

He also participated in the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament, playing for the Fiji Babaas team, and first showcased his talents in the local scene at the Nawaka 7s last year while captaining the Kombat Uluinakau team.

Expressing his excitement about joining the Fijian Drua, Loganimasi stated, “I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity. I know it’s not a small opportunity; it is a big one. Many kids in Fiji dream about playing for the Drua team, and I feel blessed to receive this chance.” He also extended his gratitude to the Drua management for placing their trust in him and looked forward to training with his new teammates.

Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson commented on Loganimasi’s signing, saying, “It means a lot for Fijian Drua, showcasing the quality of players we’re bringing in. Loganimasi’s debut with the 15’s team was unbelievable.” He further highlighted Loganimasi’s talent on the sevens circuit and predicted that he would be an invaluable addition to the club. Loganimasi becomes the fifth Flying Fijian to sign with the Drua during this off-season, enhancing the team’s impressive recruitment, which also includes internationals like Joseva Tamani, Peni Ravai, Inia Tabuavou, and Vuate Karawalevu.
