Dr. Ratu Joji Malani, a prominent Fijian medical professional, was honored with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Otago in New Zealand last Saturday. The ceremony, attended by family and friends, recognized Dr. Malani’s remarkable contributions to both the medical field and the university.
An esteemed alumnus of the University of Otago, Dr. Malani presented the institution with a portrait of the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, who himself received an Honorary Doctorate from the university. This gesture underscores Dr. Malani’s deep connection to the university and his respect for its legacy.
With over 43 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Malani has specialized in general medicine, with particular interests in gastroenterology, nephrology, and chest medicine. His medical journey began after obtaining his MBCHB from the Otago Medical School in New Zealand. He has since held influential academic positions, including Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Hawaii and Associate Professor of Medicine at Fiji National University.
Currently, Dr. Malani works as a Consultant Physician and Nephrologist at Oceania Hospitals Pte Ltd in Suva, where he continues to make significant contributions to the healthcare community.
