The second leg of the Fijian Cup rugby festival wrapped up yesterday after an exciting two-day event at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, featuring both local and international teams competing in rugby sevens.
In the open men’s division, Island Magic Daveta showcased their skills by defeating Ratu Filise with a score of 19-7. Prior to the finals, they had a noteworthy semi-final match that ended in a 10-all draw against Vunavutu.
Meanwhile, the open women’s category saw Tuva achieve victory over Full Send Pink, winning 21-5, demonstrating a strong performance throughout the pool stages and elimination rounds.
In the under 85kg category, Tovolea proved their dominance with a 12-7 win against Senibiau. The legends division crowned Nahigatoka as the champions after they narrowly beat Cuvu Black with a score of 17-7, adding a delightful highlight to their festival experience after overcoming earlier challenges in the tournament.
Pat Spellman, representing the key organizing body Tourism HQ, emphasized the importance of this tournament for both local and international teams, showcasing Fiji’s vibrant rugby culture and community spirit.
As the Fijian Cup continues, rugby league nines will take center stage next week at the same venue, promising further excitement and competition.
