The Fijian Cup is set to be an exciting sporting event featuring touch rugby, nines, and rugby sevens, aiming to highlight the exceptional talent found in Fiji. As athletes from around the world and local participants come together to compete for a total of $50,000 in prizes, this festival not only promises thrilling matches but also embraces a spirit of community service.

Richard Henry, the director of Tourism HQ, noted a strong response for the touch rugby competition, with 150 teams expressing interest, although only 24 spots are available. In the rugby nines format, which features a nine-a-side format, teams will compete in men’s and open women’s categories, with plans for an under-23 women’s division to support the NRL Women’s competition, as well as a legends division to accommodate seasoned players.

Additionally, rugby sevens will take center stage, partnered with the Nadroga Rugby Union, and will include competitions for open men’s and women’s divisions, legends division, and an under-85 category.

The tournament is scheduled to take place next month, starting with touch rugby on November 16, followed by rugby sevens on November 23, and concluding with nines on November 30 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Tickets are available through Ticketmate, and among the first 1,000 attendees will be gifted free sunglasses, adding an extra incentive for fans to join in the festivities.

This event not only offers a platform for athletes to showcase their skills but also promotes community engagement, making it a wonderful opportunity for fans and families to come together in celebration of sports.

In summary, the Fijian Cup promises to be more than just a sporting event; it seeks to foster community spirit while celebrating rugby in all its forms, reinforcing the importance of both competition and camaraderie.
