Retired school principal Kuber Singh expressed his gratitude for the life-changing benefits of cataract surgery after undergoing the procedure himself last year. He encourages fellow Fijians to prioritize regular eye examinations, highlighting the critical role eyesight plays in daily life.
Accompanied by his wife, Kusum Lata Singh, at the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva, Mr. Singh shared their positive experience with the Guangdong Bright Journey medical team from China. His wife was among 30 patients who received cataract surgery recently. Mr. Singh reminisced about his successful surgery a year prior, stating, “I’ve regained my sight and I no longer need glasses to read or watch television.”
He emphasized the importance of eye health, urging anyone experiencing vision problems to seek medical attention. “Without our eyes, we can’t do much. It’s a very important part of our body,” he said.
Kusum Singh revealed that she had been struggling with her vision for three years, which caused her considerable stress. Diagnosed with cataracts after her vision suddenly blurred, she registered for surgery in 2022 and finally received it, stating that her improved sight will greatly help her manage household tasks and care for their grandchildren.
The Guangdong Bright Journey medical team is currently on a mission across Pacific Island nations, providing free clinics and surgeries to over a hundred patients, offering a beacon of hope for those in need of eye care.
In a world where access to medical services can often be limited, the involvement of such medical teams can have a profound impact on communities. Their work not only improves individual lives but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and support between nations.
This inspiring story emphasizes the importance of eye health and demonstrates how access to medical services can transform lives, making it a hopeful reminder of the power of community health initiatives.
