The Dimples Boxing Club held an exciting Amateur Boxing competition in Ba yesterday, featuring a total of 46 bouts.
Twin brothers Iokimi and Mitieli Narusese showcased impressive skills against their Australian rivals. Iokimi, competing in the 60kg category, triumphed with a unanimous points decision over Luke Spice from Australia. Meanwhile, in the 63.5kg category, Mitieli achieved victory through a referee-stopped contest in the second round against Australia’s Armen Kwik.
Fiji Amateur Boxing Coach Cameron Todd expressed pride in the twins, praising their strength and potential. “I was really happy. My two Junior boys, Iokimi and Mitieli, demonstrated once again why they are Oceania champions. They showed physical dominance against their Australian challengers, making me excited about their future,” Todd commented.
In addition to the Narusese twins, three other Fijian boxers faced tough competition against Australian opponents. Despite not winning their fights, Todd noted that their experiences were valuable for growth. “Ben Williams, Jesoni, and Sakiusa Narara all faced challenging bouts. This was the first time Ben and Jesoni fought at that weight. Sakiusa is still developing, but all three put in hard work, and I am proud of their efforts,” he said.
Todd emphasized the significance of the event in testing local talent against a strong Australian team.
The competition attracted boxers from various regions of the country, providing essential exposure and experience for local fighters. Todd acknowledged the efforts of new boxers who traveled significant distances to compete, citing the importance of broadening their horizons beyond local areas. “I’m really excited about the talent I’ve seen,” he concluded.
