Fijian boxer Sera Bolatini is gearing up for a major showdown against Australian competitor Connie Chan in pursuit of the Super Welter WBA Oceania Title at the ZEG Kings Boxing Promotion event tonight in Suva. This contest marks Bolatini’s first attempt at a title since transitioning from a successful career in rugby, where she represented the Fijiana 7s team.

At the weigh-in held yesterday at Sukuna Park in Suva, Bolatini weighed in at 68.5 kg, while Chan tipped the scales slightly heavier at 69.3 kg. Bolatini expressed her excitement and determination, stating, “All I say is to go there and enjoy myself,” reflecting her focus on both performance and enjoyment of the experience. Recognizing the rigorous preparation required, she acknowledged the support from her family and her faith, which helped her navigate challenges leading up to the match. “Only God knows how I’ve been preparing… I’m thankful for it and looking forward to it,” she added.

Despite being relatively new to boxing with only two professional matches under her belt, Bolatini has shown resilience and a competitive spirit. Her upcoming bout is seen as not only a personal milestone but also as a symbol of the growing representation of women in combat sports within Fiji. Chan, who has 14 professional fights and a record of six wins, brings experience to the ring, establishing the matchup as a high-stakes contest.

The ZEG Kings Boxing event is significant for women’s boxing in Fiji, showcasing a total of 10 fights tonight and elevating local talent. Bolatini’s resolve and the support from her community signify a hopeful outlook for the future of women’s boxing. The atmosphere is charged with anticipation as fans eagerly await what promises to be an inspiring event for the sport in the region.
